The man accused of setting fire to a home in Kings Heights several weeks ago has been released on bail.

Curtis Belcourt from Medicine Hat was charged with arson causing damage to property, arson with disregard for human life, house breaking with intent, possession of a controlled substance, assault, assault causing bodily harm of a police officer, and attempting to disarm a police officer.

His bail was set and sureties were named during his bail hearing last week. A surety is a person who comes to court and promises to supervise an accused person while they are out on bail.

A multi-home fire in Kings Heights on April 11 resulted in arson charges laid against Belcourt.

The Airdrie fire department reported the house fire also damaged neighbouring homes.

Belcourt is scheduled to return to court in Airdrie on May 30 for election and plea.
